1st Quarter Learning Targets
Unit 1: The Number System:
- I can identify a rational number.
- I can recognize that the sum of a number and its opposite is zero and that these numbers are additive inverses.
- I can recognize that the absolute value of a number is its distance from zero.
- I can add integers using a number line.
- I can subtract integers using a number line.
- I can write subtraction problems as addition problems by adding the additive inverse.
- I can use properties of operations to add and subtract rational numbers (integers, fractions, & decimals).
- I can multiply rational numbers (integers, fractions, & decimals).
- I can divide rational numbers (integers, fractions, & decimals).
- I can recognize that integers can be divided when the divisor is not zero.
- I can convert a fraction to a decimal by using long division.
- I can solve real world problems involving the 4 operations with rational numbers.
Unit 2: Ratios and Proportional Relationships:
- I can change complex fractions into unit rates.
- I can identify if quantities are proportional in a table by finding equivalent ratios.
- I can identify if quantities are proportional in a graph by observing if it makes a straight line.
- I can identify the constant of proportionality (k, unit rate) in tables, graphs, and equations.
- I can identify proportional relationships in equations, y=kx
- I can explain what point (x,y) means on a graph of a proportional relationship, in terms of the points (0,0) and (1,r) where r is the unit rate.
- I can use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems.
- I can calculate percent increase (markups).
- I can calculate percent decrease (markdowns)
- I can calculate simple interest.
- I can calculate tax.
