Learning Task
1. You are going to read a story called “New Shoes for Maddy.” Before reading this story I would like for you to answer thefollowing questions on a notebook piece of paper.
a. Who do you think is the main character in this story?
b. What do you think this story is going to be about?
c. What do you think is going to be the problem in the story?
d. If the story is called “New Shoes for Maddy,”what kind of shoes do you think that Maddy might get?
2. Follow the link to the reading comprehension story http://readtheory.org/beginning/New_Shoes_for_Maddy.htm
3. Read the story in the above link. Click on “show all questions” after the reading passage.
4. Answer the questions after the passage.
5. Print the page with the passage and questions because it has the score at the top. If you cannot print the page write your score down on a piece of paper and turn it into your teacher.
6. Look back at the questions you answered in task #1. Answer the following questions on a notebook piece of paper.
a. What answers were correct after you read the story?
b. What was Maddy’s actual problem in the story?
c. Did Maddy get the kind of shoes that you thought she would?
