2020-2021 School Year Restart Guidelines

New Bremen Local School District plans to begin the 2020-2021 school year on Tuesday, September 8th with on-site instruction for all students 5 days a week. Linked below are two documents containing county and local school operation guidelines. The guidelines allow for flexibility to meet the varying academic needs of K-12 students in all subject matters.
Next week, a parent survey will be posted on the district website to gather data from parents to assist school personnel in the planning process. We highly encourage parents to participate in the survey so that we have accurate data. A OneCall Now message will be made once the survey has been posted to notify parents. New Bremen School staff will continue to further refine and adjust our operation plans over the next two months based on the latest data.

Remote Learning Extended Until At Least May 1st
Governor Mike DeWine extended K-12 school closures until at least May 1st. New Bremen Schools will continue to provide remote learning during this period of time. Teachers are currently in the process of planning lessons for students that may include online, paper-pencil, or a combination depending on the student’s accessibility to technology.
K-6 Assignment Pickup Dates/Times
Teachers have been busy preparing assignments for your children to work on over the next few weeks. For students in grades K-6, assignment packets can be picked up from the elementary office on Thursday, April 2nd from 3:00PM - 7:00PM or Friday, April 3rd from 9:00AM – 2:00PM. Assignments will be issued in a manner supporting physical distancing.
If you are unable to pick up assignments during these scheduled times, please call the elementary office to make other arrangements.
Ohio's Stay At Home Order
The Ohio Department of Health issued a Stay at Home Order for non-essential travel on Sunday. The Order does allow for educational travel to maintain remote education operations and meals for eligible students. The District plans to continue providing remote education and meal services unless directed otherwise by State or local agencies.

Therefore, the drop box and material exchange set-up at the high school and elementary will continue to be open. We will be cleaning the drop-off areas multiple times per day and encourage you to use the hand sanitizer we have provided at each location. If you are  not comfortable with dropping materials off you may scan or take a picture of the materials and email them directly to the teacher.

Parents of students receiving school-based physical and occupational therapy services
New Bremen Local Schools wants to make sure your child is receiving the necessary therapy and special services to meet his/her ongoing educational needs during this closure of schools. In order to continue to provide as much support as possible to you and your student during this very unusual time, we are going to offer virtual therapy sessions on-line. Therapy staff will be reaching out to families to obtain consent for such services and to receive and share the necessary information for setting up the virtual on-line sessions. What is Cancelled?
Kindergarten Screening
Kindergarten screening is being cancelled for this year and will not be rescheduled. More information for parents who will have a kindergarten child next year can be found at the bottom of this page - please scroll down. 
Campus Facilities 
All New Bremen buildings and athletic facilities, both indoor and outdoor, are closed to everyone. Students and coaches are not permitted to use any of our facilities, even on their own. This is a mandate from the OHSAA. In addition, our buildings are closed to the public. Our school offices are open during normal school hours, but by appointment only. Please call your school office to set up an appointment, if needed.
Mulch Fundraiser
The community mulch fundraiser will be canceled for this year. Thank you for your understanding and we hope you will participate again in the spring of 2021
Athletic Physicals
Athletic Physicals that were scheduled for May 6th will be postponed until later in the summer. Tentatively, we are looking at July 7, 8 or 9 as possible dates. We need to check with all involved to see if any of these dates will work and will provide more information as that time approaches.
Athletic Practices
Per the OHSAA, all practices are cancelled for all sports from March 16, 2020 and through at least May 1, 2020. At New Bremen, all of our athletic facilities will be shut down during this time. This includes our CBC training facility, track, baseball and softball fields and gyms. The OHSAA considers this time a mandatory no-contact period. 
Athletic Contests 
Per the OHSAA, all athletic contests scheduled for play from March 16, 2020 and through at least May 1, 2020 are cancelled. The OHSAA considers this time a mandatory no-contact period for coaches. The OHSAA will then require a mandatory acclamation period.
School Events
All field trips and after-school events are cancelled from March 16, 2020 and through at least May 1, 2020.
 James F Dicke Performance Arts Center
All performances scheduled in our James F Dicke Performing Arts Center from March 16, 2020 and through at least May 1, 2020 are cancelled. This includes any performance through the Lock One Community Arts and the Crescent Players.
CBC Community Membership
Our CBC Facility will be closed to everyone, including our community members, until at least May 1, 2020. We will extend each community member's renewal date by the same number of days that we close this facility. 
Winner's Meats Fundraiser Delivery
The delivery of the Winner’s Meats fundraiser will not take place on April 7th as originally scheduled. A new delivery date is yet to be determined.
Kindergarten Screening Forms
Due to circumstances beyond all of our control, we will not be holding in-person Kindergarten Screening this year.
Parents that have children that will be attending kindergarten next school year (2020-2021): 
While we will not hold screening as we traditionally do, there is still much information we need to gather from parents. Please use the link below to download a packet of forms that are necessary to enroll your child in Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year.
Please download, print and complete these forms. (These forms cannot be filled out electronically.) In addition to these forms, a copy of your child’s immunization record and birth certificate must also be submitted.
After completing these forms, you can submit them back to school by one of these three methods:
1. By emailing them to NBKindergarten@newbremenschools.org. (Feel free to scan them, if you have the means, or take a picture of them with a phone or tablet.)
2. By dropping off the forms at the elementary buiding Monday-Friday, from 8:00AM to 3:00PM. A drop box, labeled "Kindergarten Forms" will be located in the lobby.

Initial Press Release on Remote Learning

The following information was our initial press release for school closure and remote learning

On March 12, 2020, Governor Mike DeWine ordered all K-12 schools in Ohio closed for three weeks to help slow down the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). As a result, New Bremen Schools will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through at least Friday, April 3, 2020. This is an unprecedented move by the governor but one the district has been planning for throughout the week.
Part of our responsibility is to continue the education of our students when school is cancelled for an extended period of time beyond our traditional calamity and make-up days. The intention for contiuing education is not to burden students and parents with additional responsibilities but rather practice skills students are capable of demostrating so that they retain academic knowledge. What this looks like depends on the age/grade level and types of courses each student is taking this semester. Possible lessons assigned by your child's teacher may include online, paper-pencil, or a combination, depending on the student's accessibility to technology. Teachers will be communicating with students and parents on ways we can all help to preserve the continuity of education during the school closure.
Please understand that we are constantly receiving new information and we will continue to work out many details regarding the school closure. Our number one responsibility is the safety of our students and community.
We are working with our local and state health departments, and using the information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as our guidance.

Drop Boxes for Returning Work
Students have been given work to complete during this time. Drop boxes have been set up for students to use to return that work as needed.

School Lunch Information
New Bremen Schools will continue to offer lunches to our students who participate in the National School Lunch Program. These students have been contacted by school personnel. If you would like more information about this, please call your school office or email your school principal using the form on this page.
