Welcome to the eighth grade language arts page! My class encompasses English and reading. Within the English sphere, there is heavy emphasis on mastery of grammar, which is supported and supplemented with copious amounts of writing. Whether it's part of a large assignment or a simple freewrite, writing is a staple in the daily makeup of eighth grade language arts. Within the reading sphere, this class strives to foster students' abilities to read analytically and think deeply. Texts we cover in class include excerpts of Flowers for Algernon by Keyes, My Brother Sam Is Dead by Collier and Collier, The Diary of Anne Frank by Goodrich and Hackett along with portions of the actual diary, and various selections from Greek mythology.
